A recent announcement from Take-Two Interactive over another one of its games has got Grand Theft Auto VI fans excited… again
Grand Theft Auto VIĀ is set to be released towards the end of 2025. But before that, fans continue to itch for a second trailer for the instalment.
And they think there is concrete hope forĀ that fabled ‘trailer two’Ā to land in the coming months following a recent announcement for another videoĀ gameĀ being produced by joint parent company, Take-Two Interactive.
As it stands, Take-Two has twice confirmed thatĀ GTA 6Ā will be released toĀ PS5Ā andĀ XboxĀ Series X/S in the autumn of this year with some industry experts estimating itĀ could cost up to $100. After this, a port to PC isn’t expectedĀ to be too far wayĀ in a welcome change to previous franchise instalments.
Take-Two made the announcements in the autumn of 2024 and then earlier this month in what was a huge relief for those following the game closely as countless fans beg for updates on the project.
Now, it is all eyes on when it could be released in the autumn, withĀ September thought to be ruled outĀ due to another huge Take-Two release inĀ Borderlands 4.
And now, another decision taken in relation toĀ Borderlands 4Ā has been taken, with a trailer for that Take-Two game released last week.
And withĀ GTAĀ fans beingĀ GTAĀ fans, they’ve taken that as a reason to mean something about the Rockstar game.

GTA 6 will soon get an autumn release date (Rockstar)
One popularĀ GTA 6Ā fan account over on X (formerly Twitter) is @GameRollGTA which explained the new theory.
Posting about theĀ Borderlands 4Ā trailer, they explained why it is potentially good news for a second trailer forĀ GTA 6.
“Borderlands 4Ā recently got its second trailer and it launches in seven months,” they wrote.
“IfĀ GTA 6Ā was to follow this same pattern, then we can expect Rockstar to drop Trailer 2 towards the end of March.
“We have no reason to worry.
“Take-Two just utilises shorter marketing cycles these days.”

Responding to the theory, a fellow fan said: “My guess is that if the game does release this year, the next trailer should be released near or around the next conference call in May.”
Another trolled: “Second trailer next month. Previews early April. Delay to 2026 in May.”
Responding to this, @GameRollGTA said that if a second trailer does land, and it reconfirms the autumn, they are ‘almost certain it wont be delayed’. We can only live in hope.
So, why no September forĀ GTA 6?
It is because Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick confirmed to IGN that the business will not act in a way that brings about ‘cannibalization’. This is aĀ marketingĀ strategy whereby one sales of one product released by a company are directly impacted by the same company releasing another new product to the market.
In this case, we’re talking aboutĀ Borderlands 4, developed by Take-Two subsidiary Gearbox Software and published by fellow subsidiary 2K.
For Take-Two, the business obviously has a big, soft spot forĀ GTAĀ and Rockstar. But it is by no means its only slice of the gaming pie, with ZelnickĀ sayingĀ the business will ‘respect the consumer’s need to spend a lot of time playing these hit games before they go on to the next’.
In other words, withĀ Borderlands 4Ā confirmed for a 23 September release date onĀ PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC, don’t expectĀ GTAĀ beforehand or even in the weeks after. Many fans believe it could see theĀ GTA 6Ā release pushed as far back as the start of December; a prime time spot for theĀ festiveĀ market.

‘We will plan the releases’
“I think we will plan the releases so as not to have that be a problem,ā Zelnick said on cannibalization worries.
āAnd what we found is when you’re giving consumers hits, they tend to be interested in pursuing other hits. In other words, I’ve said this many times, even when the hits aren’t ours, they’re a good thing for the industry.
“In this case, we hope that the hits will largely be ours. So we feel really good about it and I think that we will time our releases so as to respect the consumer’s need to spend a lot of time playing these hit games before they go on to the next.ā

Mapping the release
Over on Reddit, one fan ‘mapped out’ the potential release date. Sharing it in theĀ GTA6Ā subreddit, they said: “Now that we knowĀ Borderlands 4Ā is releasing on September 23rd, Iām confident that Rockstar will releaseĀ GTA 6Ā anywhere from the 17th of October to the 15th of November.
“The reason is because this is before the holidays (Thanksgiving and Christmas). This release window is also far enough away fromĀ Borderlands 4Ā as it wonāt be able to clash with that gameās release. As for the 16th to the 22nd of November, the game could still release during this time as itās still before the holidays but Iām not as confident about it since itās the literal week before.”
